I was taking my laptop apart. One of the screws was very tight and I accidentally stripped the screw. How can I remove the stripped screw?
I found that it’s easier to remove a tight screw if you heat it for a few seconds with a soldering gun. The heat will soften securing glue on the screw thread and make it easier to remove.

If the screw has been stripped, you can try removing it with a screw extractor.
Do you know if the hinges for a Toshiba Satellite A15-s157 PSA10U-01C8WV are interchangeable? For example, would the hinges from an a15-s127 work on a Toshiba Satellite A15-s157 PSA10U-01C8WV? I had also herd that some Tecra models, and some A10 models would also work for my Toshiba Satellite A15-s157 PSA10U-01C8WV but before I buy I wanted to ask you about interchangeabilty of these parts, since you are far more experienced and knowledgable with all these models..and, Thank you in advance
Toshiba Satellite A10 and A15 laptops may have three different base types. One base is marked with a letter “S”, the second one with a letter “C” and the last one with a letter “P”. In most cases this letter is stamped on the bottom of the laptop base in the battery compartment area but sometimes the letter could be located in a different spot.
You’ll have to use different hinges for different bases.
I want to replace a dead fan on Toshiba Portege 3500 Tablet PC how do I disassemble to get to it?
To access and replace a dead fan, you’ll have to open the laptop and remove the top cover. Follow Toshiba Portege 3500 disassembly guide. The fan is pictured on the step 20. You can find a new fan if you search on the Internet by the part number: P000363930
I have a Toshiba Satellite 1135-S155. SMART system says hard drive is failing and shuts down computer before it boots up. Sounds like it needs a new hard drive, but I can’t find it (or a repair manual) to replace it. Can you tell me were it is located and how to remove it? Thanks!
The hard drive is located under the DVD drive. The DVD drive is secured by one screw on the bottom of the laptop. Remove the screw and slide the DVD drive out of the laptop. Under the DVD drive you’ll see the hard drive; it’s secured by four screws. Remove screws, slide the hard drive away from the motherboard to disconnect it and lift it up. Not you can transfer mounting brackets to a new hard drive and install it back into the laptop.
I’m fixing my girlfriends Toshiba Portege A100 and the fan is dead is there anywhere online where I can order a new fan besides Toshiba (i.e. non genuine parts or second hand ). Thank you for your time.
I had to repair Toshiba Portege A100 only 2 times. First time I replaced the hard drive and second time I replaced the fan. That’s a lot of work, because you cannot access the fan from the bottom of the laptop or even if you remove the laptop keyboard. The fan is located on the bottom of the system board and you have to remove the board in oreder to replace the fan. You’ll be surprised, but I have created a guide for replacing the cooling fan on Toshiba Portege A100. The hardest part was finding a new fan. This model is not sold in the USA so I had to find an equivalent. I found that Toshiba Portege 3500 should work fine, and it did. That’s the same fan. Here’s a part number for Toshiba Portege 3500 fan: P000363930. You can search for this part number on eBay or just Google for it.
How do I replace the hard drive on a Toshiba Satellite p15-s479?
The hard drive is located under the CD/DVD drive. Before you start taking apart the laptop, remove the battery and unplug the AC power.
1. You have to remove the CD/DVD drive. Turn the laptop over. Remove one screw right above the dive and slide the drive out of the laptop.
2. When the CD/DVD drive is removed, you’ll see a metal plate. The metal plate is secured by 4 screws. Remove them and lift up the plate from the bay. The hard drive is located right under the plate.
3. After you remove the plate, you’ll see the hard drive. The hard drive also secured by 4 screws. Remove the screws, slide the hard dire to disconnect it from the connector on the moterboard and lift it up.
4. You have to transfer the brackets from the old hard drive to a new hard drive. Also, if there is a foil shielding around the old hard drive, you’ll have to transfer it to a new hard drive too.

I’ve got a couple of questions regarding my Toshiba A25-S307 laptop. I’m looking to upgrade two key components first is my RAM. So I ask this, is there any specific brand I should go with or does it not really matter about the brand? Second question is do I need PC 2100 or PC 2700, and if available should I get it in dual channel? And for my final question what is the largest hard drive and RPM speed I can put in my laptop without over heating it. The reason I’ve turned to you, is due in large part to the run around I’ve been getting from Toshiba.
According to the Toshiba specification for this model, you should use PC2100 memory and can install up to 1GB (512MB+512MB). There are no recommendations about memory brand, but I would go with brands like Kingston or Crucial. I believe both companies offer a life time warranty on their memory. You can use PC2100 or PC2700. If you use PC2700 it will automatically slow down to PC2100 speed, you shouldn’t have any problems by using PC2700. This model doesn’t support dual channel technology.
60GB, 5400RPM is the largest and fastest hard drive that Toshiba installs into this model. You can use any larger hard drive. I don’t think that you’ll experience any heat issues if you install 7200RPM hard drive.
By the way, both memory slots are located under the keyboard. Here’s a guide that shows how to access the memory slots on Toshiba Satellite A25 laptop.
I have a Toshiba Satellite M35-S320 with broken hinges.
How far do I have to disassemble the laptop and where can I find the parts I need?
Replacing broken laptop hinges takes a lot of time because you have to take apart two major parts – the laptop case and the display assembly. For removing the top cover assembly you can follow these instructions. To open up the display assembly, check out guides for other models on www.irisvista.com. If you decide to open the laptop, be very careful and document each step you make so you have no trouble assembling it back. If you are not confident, do not open the laptop or you can damage it permanently.
You can find new hinges if you search on Google using the part number.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A60 laptop and the fan is pretty much dead. The computer shuts off after 15 minutes of use. Can you tell me the model number for this fan and is there a guide to replacing it?
First of all, make sure that the laptop shuts down because of a dead fan and it’s necessary to replace it. When you turn on the laptop, does the fan start spinning? Can you here it at all? It’s very likely that the laptop shuts down because the cooling module is clogged and it needs just a good cleaning. Laptop overheating is a very common issue. I just replace a motherboard on Toshiba Satellite A65 and believe me, the heat sink was 100% clogged with lint and dust. So, I would check the heat sink and the fan first. Here’s a disassembly guide I made for Toshiba Satellite A65 laptop, it would be the same for Satellite A60. If you want to find a heat sink cooling fan for this model, look up on the Internet by the part number: V000042110.
If you want to clean up the fan and the heat sink, it would be enough to remove just the keyboard. You’ll get a good access to the cooling module so you can clean it up with compressed air. To replace the fan, you’ll have to remove to top cover and fortunately, you don’t have to remove the system board.
UPDATE: Here’s another thread dedicated to Toshiba Satellite A60 and A65 problems.
I have Toshiba satellite A15-S129 notebook. I have cracked the screen but could still see around and under cracks. I take the screen out by using your Toshiba Satellite 2435 instruction (thanks for the help it was easy), when I reinstalled the screen I could only get WHITE BACKLIGHT no image at all. I hooked up the external monitor and got an image but goes back to laptop and just white light. I remember when I first dissembled the notebook display assembly and reinstalled the old cracked screen that it look to me like the data connector cable (male) on the back of the display laid on top of the LCD connector(female) and I taped it down. Later when I looked again at the connector I realized it plugged in and not laying on top. I also notice the data cable has open pins on it which I made contact with the metal surface of the LCD connector. Did I short something? The External monitor does display starting Windows XP.
From my experience, very often you get a white screen when the video cable is not properly seated on the back of the LCD screen. I assume that the video cable is good itself, because you were able to see some image on the old cracked screen.
Disconnect the video cable from the connector on the LCD screen and check the connector with a magnifying glass. If you see any bent pins, very carefully straighten them with a small flathead screwdriver. I hope that you didn’t break any pins.
I’m not sure if you can short a circuit, but I’m pretty sure that you can damage pins if you plug the video cable incorrectly. I’ve done it myself before and I was able to make it work after I straightened bent pins on the LCD connector.
