I have stepped on my Dell Inspiron N4010 laptop recently by accident and now it has many long and short cracks all over the screen and i understand this can be fixed by just replacing the screen?

But with cracks, i also have green and black lines around my screen….. will these black and green lines go away as well if i replace the screen???? i would really not like to replace my entire laptop.. screen itself coasts so much… so please help me!!!

P.S. … do u happen to know how i can check what kind of screen i have?

I think you’ll have to replace the screen. All these black and green lines should go away when you have a new screen installed.

Take a look at the following YouTube video explaining how to replace cracked screen on a Dell Inspiron N4010 laptop.

You can search for a new replacement screen using the screen model number which is printed on the screen sticker. You’ll have to remove the screen, find the sticker and located the model number. After that just google the screen model number. Also, new Dell Inspiron N4010 screen available on eBay here.

How do I take apart a Dell Inspiron 1000 in order to re-solder the jack plug? Thank you

I hope you understand that you’ll have to disassemble the whole laptop and remove the motherboard in order to fix the DC jack, right? You’ll need some computer repair and soldering skills.
If you are ready to go, here are step-by-step instructions for replacing DC jack in a Dell Inspiron 1000 laptop.

1. First of all, before you disassemble the laptop, make sure you have a brand new DC jack for your laptop.
I would recommend replacing the old jack with a new one, not just re-soldering it.

2. Get step-by-step Dell Inspiron 1000 disassembly instructions here. With these instructions you’ll be able to remove the motherboard.

3. Finally, read though this DC jack repair guide. It explains how to desolder the old DC jack and replace it with a new one.

The left control button (just below the touchpad) on my Toshiba M110 Satellite laptop appears to be broken. Do I need to replace the complete top part of the laptop or can I replace just the left button please?

Unfortunately, the touch pad buttons are part of the top cover.
If one of the buttons (usually left one) gets broken, the entire top cover assembly has to be replaced.
The following guide for Toshiba Satellite M110 laptop explains how to remove the top cover.
After the top cover removed, you’ll have to transfer touchpad and button board to the new cover.

Your Pavilion dv6 laptop should have eight screw covers on the front bezel.
Remove those eight covers and remove all eight screws hidden under those covers.
After that you remove the bezel and access the screen.

I have a broken LCD on a HP Pavilion DV6-2157 notebook. I don’t see any screws on the bezel. How do I replace the LCD on this model? Any info would be helpful.

You are correct, this model doesn’t have any screws on the screen bezel.
In order to remove and replace the LCD screen you’ll have to separate the display panel from the laptop base first. After that disassemble the display panel and remove the LCD screen.

All disassembly steps are shown in this service guide for HP Pavilion dv6 series notebooks.

I accidentally dropped my HP Pavilion dv9700 notebook and the LCD screen got cracked. Can I replace the screen my self or it’s too complicated? Do you know how to remove the broken screen and where I can find a new one?

Yes, you can try replacing the broken LCD screen yourself. You’ll find step-by-step instructions in the manual for HP Pavilion dv9500/dv9600/dv9700 notebooks. You’ll have to read the instructions and find out if it’s too complicated for you or not.

HP uses two different types of LCD screens in these models. Some screens come with single backlight lamp and other screens come with dual backlight lamp.

You’ll have to do some research and find out if your laptop has a single or dual lamp screen. Replace the broken screen with a similar one.

All LCD screens (and their part numbers) used in HP Pavilion dv9500/dv9600/dv9700 notebooks are mentioned on the page 69 in the above mentioned manual.

In most HP laptops the screen/display part number is shown on a sticker glued to the video cable (somewhere close to the connector). In most cases you can find the sticker under the keyboard bezel where the video cable plugged into the motherboard. Find the display part number and google it or search on eBay.

I have a Dell Inspiron 9400 laptop and a few months ago two very thin (one-pixel-wide) vertical lines appeared to the very left of my 17 inch screen, one green, one yellow. Since it was a minor nuisance I ignored it. Week by week, one or two more would appear gradually more and more to the right. then yesterday night after watching a movie and when the black screen at the end came up with all the credits rolling I closed the movie window and suddenly a huge white band about two inches wide appeared in the very middle of the screen.

I plugged in my laptop to an external monitor to see if my video card had died, but the image was fortunately/or unfortunately clear/normal. Is there a way to fix his? or do I have to buy a new monitor? If so, where can I find a cheap monitor to install it myself, it is very easy, I’ve done it before. I tried eBay, but there is nothing. I called Dell, but they only sell such parts with a technician who must come to my house, or I must ship my laptop, both of which are out of the question for me, the first due to paying an unnecessary price, the second because they always mess up my files or erase my drives every time I’ve shipped my laptop, be that to install a new cd/dvd driv, or change my RAM, no matter how many times I told them not to touch my data.

Right now i am using only the very right side of the screen, but I fear it won’t be long until it dies too. I opened the laptop and checked the connection to the screen and the cables, and there was no change…

Sounds like you have a faulty LCD screen. Unfortunately, you cannot repair the screen, you’ll have to replace it with a new one.
Here are instructions for replacing the LCD screen in a Dell Inspiron 9400 laptop. You can do it yourself. A new screen will cost you less than $100.
