After I installed Vista as a second operating system I can’t boot from the recovery disk, after loading the RAM disk image the notebook restarts. When I run it from XP my notebook (it’s a Satellite Pro l-100 p431T) can read it.
I tried to format the Vista partition but after that the notebook showed the Vista boot manager every time I started it, so I installed Vista again… Does this problem disappear if I can remove Vista 100 percent and if yes how can I do so?
If I understand right you want to get rid of the Vista boot manager so you can reinstall XP and have just one OS on the hard drive, correct?
You can try erasing the hard drive with Active@ Kill Disk utility, download an image and burn it on a CD. Boot the laptop from this CD and run Active@ Kill Disk. This utility actually erases everything from the hard drive sector by sector. Do not erase the entire hard drive because it might be very time consuming. Run this utility for 2-3 minutes so it goes just through the beginning of the hard drive where the boot manager is written.
NOTE: after running this utility you will not be able boot the laptop into XP or Vista, you’ll have to reinstall XP (or Vista) from scratch but it should take care of the boot manager.
I have an Acer Aspire 1670 laptop and I am having problems with Windows Vista. I cannot use my lanexpress wireless card as Vista cannot use its original drivers can anybody help me out with locating drivers that will support the card with Vista. Vista also takes a dislike to the mobility Radeon 9700 and will not use the unsigned drivers needed to use the card :S Please leave comments on similar problems or any ideas for fixing these. Any help is much appreciated.
Not sure if ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 will be supported in Vista. I just checked ATI website and found a driver only for Radeon 9700 series but not Mobility Radeon 9700.
Vista is too young and it’s possible Acer will issue the missing drivers later.
Take a look at the wireless card installed into your laptop. If it’s an Intel card you can get a driver from their website.
